Therapy can help you learn coping skills to overcome your unique challenges. If you’re interested in seeking therapy in Washington state, consider online treatment. While providers may be available in Washington cities like Seattle, Spokane, or Tacoma, a lack of available appointments and transportation challenges can make it difficult to find an in-person appointment. With an online platform like BetterHelp, you can meet with your therapist from home at a time that works for you.

BetterHelp therapists can help you with a variety of challenges, including managing the psychological effects of domestic violence or learning to manage the symptoms of mental health conditions like mood disorders, anxiety, and depression.

BetterHelp does not currently provide group therapy or treatment modalities aimed at children and adolescents, like play therapy, but the professionals on the platform have extensive experience with a range of human services and solution-focused treatments, like commitment therapy, art therapy, of behavioral therapy.

If you’re looking for an online therapist, WA has many options available for telehealth services. The Washington therapists listed below are licensed to provide online mental health care across the Evergreen State. Connect with one of the following mental health providers to learn more about online therapy and take a step toward improving your overall well-being.

Welcome to my Therapy Room. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over 20 years of experience working in Mental Health. I have worked with clients with a wide range of concerns including refugees, geriatric, chronic mental illness, relationship issues, and trauma. I have had special training in diagnosing Adults on the Autism Spectrum using the ADOS 2. I have had training in sex therapy and Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy as well. I can supervise other therapists/students in WA state and discuss cases with colleagues as required per your code of ethics. My therapy style is person centered and solution focused. I believe you already have answers within you but may need someone to shine a flashlight on parts that may be hidden or buried. I will tailor our dialogue to meet your unique and specific needs. I am an introvert and will be more of a listener and guider. My style is not as interactive and upbeat as compared to an extroverted therapist. I am straightforward and go straight to the work in most cases, rather than spending lengthy time on small talk. I am part of the LGBTQ+ community. I came to this country as a refugee in the 1980s and am a survivor of trauma. Age is important to clients so I will disclose I am in the 40s age range. My hobbies, include hiking, board games, reading, drinking tea and playing with cats. A little explanation on how I use different therapies: Somatic- helping you locate the feeling in the body and describing it based on a feeling meditation that originates from Eastern philosophies (this is a common technique used by therapists in recent years) CBT- working on thought distortions. Specifically, I like to teach a session on 12 common thought distortions and help you identify how they show up for you. ACT- working on seeing things can be both this way and that way, it's not black and white. We add the word "and" rather than "or" to your view of the world. AEDP- exploring how anxiety is really a cover for other emotions such as disappointment, rage, fear etc. Compassionate Inquiry- identifying how the emotional flashbacks (aka triggers) you are experiencing now are related to things that took place in the past. Awareness leads to initiation and we work on no longer letting these patterns take control of your life. Therapist self disclosure with personal stories that relate to yours is necessary. (this goes against some older styles where therapists didn't self-disclose) Motivational Interviewing- looking at how your goals don't match your current behaviors. Regular talk therapy and venting is great too- it helps me reflect back your patterns to you. For instance if you say a certain phrase frequently I will point this out to you. Poetry- I enjoy mixing in poetry when it pertains to certain issues and especially if you are a writer/poet. Shadow Work- exploring your unconscious patterns and stored memories and how they affect your way of thinking. Please take advantage of the journal feature. If you share it with me I may comment and we can discuss highlights during our sessions. I am ok with you having to multitask/snack/cook/text as long as you are dressed appropriately and engage in therapy. While we try our best to have a professional setting, sometimes working from home entails apartment noises, and a less than perfect setting. I may eat a snack or use my standing desk and exercise my feet for health reasons. If you are here for relationship struggles I will ask you and your significant other to take the Gottman Relationship Checkup which will cost $39 per couple. It will give us a comprehensive map of areas to focus on. My sessions are 30 to 45 minutes. We can see how the session is flowing and the stopping point will occur naturally for each session. However the minimum is 30 minutes. I can't accept less than that due to financial reasons. Betterhelp is great because you have an unlimited chat service available 24/7 and when you schedule sessions, you can choose between phone, video and chatroom (livechat). So if you had a video session booked but it turns out you are at the doctor's office- we can quickly make it a livechat or if you are driving we can make it a phone call. It's easy to switch on my end. I look forward to meeting you!

As a therapist, my approach is contemporary and uniquely tailored to each client. Everyone has the answers within themselves and sometimes needs the proper guidance to trust their intuition and develop essential skills for life's complexities. My style is direct yet comforting and solution-focused, ideal for busy individuals who use therapy as a pitstop to reflect and reset. I have extensive experience helping individuals navigate relationship concerns and substance and behavioral addictions, as well as assisting people to become the best versions of themselves. I emphasize accountability, providing assignments to help adopt healthy habits for lifelong change. I specialize in guiding individuals and couples through the complexities of relationships using methods like the Gottman Method and Imago Therapy. I welcome all types of relationships, including kink-friendly and polyamorous dynamics. My approach focuses on helping couples create stronger connections by encouraging self-reflection and personal growth. Additionally, I support clients navigating the dating scene and those working through challenges such as infidelity, aiming to foster healthier, more fulfilling relationships. I specialize in working with clients who possess a foundational level of self-healing and are seeking to navigate challenging situations with resilience. I do not work with individuals in crisis or experiencing severe mental health symptoms, as my therapeutic approach is best suited for those prepared to engage in solution-focused strategies for personal growth. I exclusively offer live chat sessions as my chosen modality. This approach minimizes barriers to care, providing a comfortable and accessible platform for clients. Many individuals find they can express themselves more effectively in writing and better retain new mental health interventions when they read them. Are you ready to reach a new level of optimal wellness, break down mental blocks, and face challenges head-on with self-compassion and empowerment? Let's work together and make it happen!

Greetings! I am Kathleen (Kathi) Sutton, a Transpersonal Psychotherapist and Registered Art Therapist licensed in Colorado with 9 years of experience. Before that, I was a parenting coach and educator for many years. I have worked with clients from ages three to ninety three: individuals, families and groups, in residential treatment centers, outpatient group practice, correctional facilities, assisted living and a community-based art therapy collective. I am especially passionate about working with women seeking empowerment, wanting to build self esteem, recovering from abusive relationships and those seeking direction, encouragement and guidance in navigating big life changes. Navigating the process of aging is also of special interest to me. I have a strengths-based approach within the context of an authentic relationship, that being the essential foundation for success with any healing modality. I want to get to know you and I want you to feel heard and respected! I strive to help you uncover and validate your inherent health and goodness, with sensitivity to individual needs and interests. I offer a mindfulness approach as I we employ trauma-informed talk therapy, somatosensory therapy, and expressive arts therapies, facilitating insight, expression of feelings, and release of trauma stored in the body and nervous system, thereby building emotional resilience. I can provide psychoeducation, when appropriate, to help you develop practices that can invite self-acceptance as well as support improved self-regulation and self care. Sometimes even the act of reaching out for help can take you far along a healing path. I would be honored to walk that path with you, and as I relate to the very best in you, I hope to help you to know that best self as well.

I have been doing individual, group, and family therapy since I received my MSW degree in 2007, but I've worked in the field of social work since right out of high school. In my therapy practice, I draw from a wide variety of personal and career experiences which have taught me to hold emotional space and cultivate safety and unconditional positive regard for my clients. I began as a VISTA volunteer at a YWCA on the border of Detroit. After completing my BSW at Wayne State University I was hired into a program that provided in-home family therapy and case management for parents that were involved with CPS. Then I joined the Peace Corps and served in Kingston, Jamaica as a youth-at-risk volunteer. I completed my MSW degree at Western Michigan University after I returned to the US, and have worked in a variety of settings as a clinical therapist since then, including a Native tribe, a medium-security prison, rural schools, and within a medical clinic setting. I also teach yoga and am a reiki master, and I practice Native Tradition. My current perspective on counseling is that humanity is going through a massive evolution of consciousness. I am an empath which also informs my therapeutic approach. I enjoy blending scientific facts and ancient wisdom with storytelling when working with my clients. I live in a cottage in the woods, close to Lake Michigan, and I spend as much time in nature as possible. I care deeply about people and while I have many hobbies, mental health therapy has always been my passion. My family is full of mental illness, addiction, narcissism, and abuse and as a child I dreamed of being happy and helping others find their happiness too. I believe we all have an inner compass that can guide us. Mindfulness, CBT techniques, yoga, philosophy, art, music, and humor make up the majority of my approach with clients in an attempt to spark that connection with your inner compass.

I am licensed in Washington with 20 + years of professional work experience. I assist those who have become aware that the story they are currently living is no longer serving them well. Together we will create a therapeutic environment that cultivates this initial awareness. Through the application of evidence based therapies, compassionate boundaries and a mind/body integrative approach, we work to resolve the past dysfunctional or traumatic parts of your story. Applying a mindfulness approach and cognitive based therapies such as CBT, motivational interviewing, movement, somatic therapies and family systems, we may bring an increased awareness and balance to our mind/body. Aligning ourselves with our spiritual center, we may create a new intentional, energetic story that allows healing and cultivates the possibility and choice for wellbeing. I further offer nature therapy and grounding/yogic guidance. I will aid you in identifying symptoms of discomfort and disconnection, common in overstressed, underachieved lifestyles that may invoke self injury, self denial or self harm. Together we will develop a compassionate wellness plan that allows you to safely transition from this undesirable, self-concealing storyline, to one of presence and possibility. My path as a therapist has paralleled my healing journey from a temporary paralysis associated with Guillain-Barre’ syndrome and continues with my practice as an LMHC in WA , and my creative work as a musician. I practice with the belief that you can resolve your dysfunctional story and with (y)our applied awareness/creativity, you may author a new, intentional story of health and happiness. I have experience in helping clients with stress and anxiety, moderate depression, motivation, self esteem, and confidence, career difficulties, & coping with life changes. I work with my clients to create an open and safe environment where thoughts and feelings can be shared without fear of judgment. Taking the first step to sign up for therapy can take courage and I am proud of you for getting started!

Frequently asked questions (FAQs)

Some commonly asked questions can be found below.

How much does a therapist cost?

Mental health professionals can differ in price. Forbes found that the average cost of in-person therapy in the US is around $100 to $200 per hour. Pricing can also vary based on your location.

BetterHelp offers payment plans of $60 to $90 per session, charged monthly in a lump sum. You can also take advantage of this pricing on one of BetterHelp's sister platforms, like ReGain for couples or TeenCounseling for teens aged 13 to 19.

Many therapists may be upfront about their pricing and whether or not they take health insurance from the beginning. Additionally, some in your area may offer a sliding scale plan to allow those with lower incomes to pay less for therapy. However, services online can often save individuals a few hundred dollars per month.

How do I know if I should get a therapist?

Mental health services and mental health providers may help you navigate various concerns. You do not need a diagnosis or condition to attend therapy; You can discuss grief, relationship concerns, stress, or life changes and ask for general advice. A counselor may help you gain power over your life and emotions while you navigate day-to-day experiences.

Mental health issues don't always present as a crisis. Many professionals provide talk therapy and support for life transitions, skills learning, relationship problems, or life coaching. Online therapy sessions in Washington can allow clients seeking therapy to experience professional help through video, phone, or live chat sessions without commuting to an office.

Does insurance cover therapy?

Different counseling services can vary in cost. Therapists must apply to accept insurance through insurance companies, which may take time and money, so not every therapist offers services through insurance. If you cannot find a therapist that accepts your plan, BetterHelp may be cheaper than visiting an in-person therapist.

Is online therapy safe?

Online therapy through BetterHelp and its sister platforms is safe. Therapists are licensed, experienced, and vetted before being contracted with the platform. If you experience any concerns with your therapist, you change your counselor through the platform or app at any time.
